Signs of illness or distress Empty Signs of illness or distress

Hedgehogs are nocturnal creatures and if out in daylight they are desperate and need help, even if they show no obvious signs of any injury or illness.
Obvious injuries – such as bleeding, dragging of limbs or collapse need immediate attention.
Circling – If you see a hedgehog running in circles it may have an ear infection or could possibly be blind.
Loss of spines or fur – could indicate a skin condition that will need treatment.
Maggots / Fly eggs – Fly eggs look like small, cream-coloured grains of rice or sawdust amongst the spines or fur. Removal is priority as they will very soon hatch into maggots.
