Hedgehog fleas

Hedgehog fleas do not appear to harm a healthy hedgehog. They are host specific and will not live on humans, pets and will not infest your house. Severe infestation however can cause severe anaemia.

The hedgehog can be dusted with Johnson's Rid-mite powder which is a gentle pyrethrum based flea powder used for birds. Any aerosol flea spray used for cats or dogs should never be used as they are too toxic and will kill the hedgehog. This powder can also be used to treat surface skin mites.
